Bruce is a Level 5 USA Hockey certified coach with over 20 years of head coaching experience. He is the current Director of Player and Coaching Development and Girls Hockey Director with the Elmhurst Chiefs. Bruce’s coaching background includes an 8-year tenure as the York High School Hockey Director and Varsity Head Coach, as well as time with the Chicago Blues, Northbrook Bluehawks, Winnetka Warriors, Loyola Academy and CYA Girls hockey.

Bruce was born and raised in Canada. He currently lives in Villa Park, with his wife Leah and two children Calder and Wren, who both play hockey and are goalies.

Max played his IL youth hockey for the Highland Park Falcons AA and Team Illinois AAA clubs. Max played high school hockey for the CRHC while attending Whitney Young. The team at that time was formerly known as Latin Romans during his tenure. Max then played a gap year at Phillips Exeter Academy. Following graduation, Max played 4 years Division III college hockey for Amherst College. As a coach, Max has been a Delaney Hockey skills coach for a number of years and a Chicago Jets assistant coach for the U16 NIHL team in the 2020-21 season.

In 2021-22, Max and his brother Billy Roche lead the Romans Boys Varsity to the Final Four. He is excited to get to work with the 2022-23 coaching staff and players.
